My Backyard Boats:

The Flats Rat

Wanna try this boat? Get in line

23 August 03: In the past two years, I have made five boats. None of them has been as popular as the Flats Rat. We launched the Reverend's little boat while on vacation at Selkirk Shores State Park on Lake Ontario, where we spent a week with family. Seven of us, from an 8-year-old, to a 10-year-old, to a 17-year-old, to adults of various ages, heights, and shapes, tried out the Flats Rat, and everyone was raving. I've already decided to throw one together for myself in the next week or two. It's a fine little craft and more fun than any boat I've ever owned or used.

    Cost: $70 total.

Time spent: 40 hours. Your mileage may vary. I work slow and aim for a high level of finish.
