Wind
whips water with gusto
15
October 03:
Buffalo and region had wind gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour
today. I took some pix at the big curve in the river at Strawberry
Island, at the foot of Ontario Street, about five minutes from
the house.
The
river looked more like a confused sea, with steep swells of
two to four feet. The gulls and ducks didn't mind a bit, though.
It was just a little more fun than usual for them, to watch
them bob with the waves. A few bobbed more offshore and did
a lot of underwater swimming. They looked like ducks, but I'm
not so sure. I've seen 'em in Delaware Lake, too. Loons, maybe.
The
wind had the waters of the Niagara River looking more
like the surf on the ocean. The ducks had their game faces
on, though. |

Wind
gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour whip up the river. |
|
| The
ducks rode the waves like little surfers. |
|
| The
waves hitting the retaining wall stirred up a lot of duck-suitable
food, I bet. |
|
| This
guy a little more offshore did a lot of diving and swimming
under the water. |
