Me and my shadow

14 February 04: The interplay of light and shadow, mirrored in the snow and trees, set the tone for a visit we made to Goat Island above the Falls of Niagara today.

With temps in the 20s F., we were glad to go and glad to leave after a while in the cold.

The ice bridge was broken below the falls on the American side, but has filled in above and below, stretching to the horizon to the north, downstream toward Lake Ontario.

Goat Island from the U.S. side has a dramatic background of high rises on the Canadian side for many of my pix.

Water leaps under footbridge just above Bridal Veil Falls. The two blurs in the foreground are snow-fence tops.
American Falls on a cold day in winter.
Tiny Bridal Veil Falls in the foreground, with American Falls beyond. Pic also shows the ice bridge marching downstream in the gorge.
American Falls makes a big hole in the ice bridge, and other smaller, rounder holes exist upstream.
Cliff face on the American side, below International Falls.
Snow-fence pickets frame detail on the cliff face on the American side.
American snow and Canadian buildings.
On this Valentine's Day, a tree and a column of snow dance to the tune of Me and My Shadow.
